“Tissus Inspirés,” the first-ever Pierre Frey tribute exhibition, will arrive at Paris’s Musée des Arts Décoratifs on January 21, running until May 15. An 80-year retrospective of the brand’s spirit and vision, the exhibit presents fabric and wallpaper alongside work from the museum’s permanent collections—as well as contemporary artists’ works curated expressly for the exhibit. The exhibit will also delve into the design house’s production method and inspiration sources.

About 200 pieces will be exhibited across the museum’s six Study Gallery rooms; the first room will spotlight techniques for creating and producing textiles and charting work from sketch to completion in patterns, colors and materials. The exhibit will explore Pierre Frey via a historical context, as well as a modern lens, through four capsule collections produced by present-day designers.
The exhibition also includes an homage to the designer and brand by Julien Salaud, Peter Gentenaar, Michelle Taylor, Paule Riché, Kumi Yamashita, Memo Akten and Label Dalbin. The seven artists are of different nationalities, working in different fields, and all capture the trademark Pierre Frey concepts of color, ink, history, texture, pattern and the what the museum describes as the “rustling of the fabric.”
