Good Design Awards announced in furniture, textiles

Earlier this month the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies named the 2012 winners of the Good Design Awards, selected by a New York-based jury.
Good Design covers new consumer products in categories ranging from electronics to furniture and textiles to transportation and more. Over 500 awards represented the work of thousands of designers and industry leaders producing the finest accomplishments in design and manufacturing from 38 nations.

Dolphin Arm Chair by Derin Design
Winners in the furniture category included: Twisted X Desk by DesignLush, Ban Stools by Esrawe Studio, Dolphin Arm Chair by Derin Design and more.

Nadal Throw by Missoni Home
Winners in the textile category included: The Vivid Collection by KnollTextiles, Bernhardt Fusion and Workshop Collections by Bernhardt, Nadal Throw by Missoni Home and many more.

2012 Jury
The final winners were chosen by a jury, which consisted of George Beylerian of Material Connexion; Louise Braverman of Louise Braverman Architects; Katherine Chia of Desai/Chia Architecture; Mark Husser of Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners Limited; Jack Pascarosa of Evidence Design; Mathieu Turpault
 of Bressler Group; and Casimir Zdanius of Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners Limited.
“Good Design is referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of industrial design," said Christian K. Narkiewicz-Laine, Museum President, The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and chief curator of the Good Design program.
The Awards date back to 1950, when they were created by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. in Chicago.
