Danish-American furniture designer Jens Risom will celebrate his 100th birthday this May. In honor of the designer, who was born and raised in Copenhagen before moving to the U.S. in the 1930s, Ralph Pucci International is kicking off a traveling exhibition of his work.

Risom is renowned for his Scandinavian modernist sofas, cocktail tables, chairs and sideboards. On display will be early designs from the 1950s and 1960s, work from the designer’s re-editions collections for Ralph Pucci. The exhibit will open in Pucci’s L.A. showroom on March 23, then travel to New York for ICFF in May, and Miami for Art Basel in December.

“I did not want the collection to be a cliché of midcentury modernism,” CEO Ralph Pucci tells Architectural Digest. “I wanted the collection to exude a timeless quality—something that was so well designed in the ’50s could be quietly updated and become a true classic. We collaborated very closely, looking through Jens’s extensive archives and catalogues. I chose my favorites, and Jens recommended pieces he felt were important to his vision.” Pucci met the designer in 2005, and “swiftly persuaded him to opt out of retirement,” reports AD.
