From May 13 to 16, contemporary design show WantedDesign returns to New York’s Terminal Stores building for its sixth season. WantedDesign Brooklyn also returns for the second time, popping up in Industry City, a waterfront district in Sunset Park, from May 7 to 17. Participating companies so far include Alessi, Alpi, Bernhardt Design, CIAV Meisenthal, CIRVA, Horm.it, Kinder Modern, LightArt, Ligne Roset, Moooi, Moroso, Neal Feay, Nursery Works, Visual Magnetics and Wakanine/David Trubridge.

One highlight of this year’s fairs is a program, in partnership with the French Embassy in the U.S., dedicated to French designers and manufacturers. The embassy is also launching Oui Design, a new French-American exchange program.
As part of Oui Design, WantedDesign Brooklyn will feature the fifth edition of its Design Schools Workshop, led by ENSCI Les Ateliers, Paris, with a group of students from design schools around the world gathering to experiment and produce objects. The workshop is designed to “promote collaboration rather than competition,” and offers students a chance to present their work.
WantedDesign’s latest program, in collaboration with WorkOf, celebrates independent American designers and makers at the Manhattan show. “The maker movement is specific to the U.S., and is addressed particularly to architects and interior designers. We believe it is important to support and highlight this category by dedicating a special area with a selection of the best independent studios coming from all states. WorkOf shares our commitment to these independent studios, and as such, is the natural choice for a partner in this new initiative,” WantedDesign founders Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat said in a statement. “It’s a great addition to our American Design Honors program that we are presenting with Bernhardt Design, and aligns with our commitment to support American design and initiate deeper global exchanges.”
