The inaugural Advocacy Symposium, from September 11 to 13, will be presented by the IIDA in Austin, Texas, to show attendees how to apply skills and techniques to articulate the value and mission of interior design as well as how to gain a better understanding of the meaning of advocacy within the profession. On the agenda are presentations by to-be-named guest speakers on the power of advocacy and the importance of state boards, as well as interactive lunches, breakout sessions, and tours of local landmarks such as the Wilsonart Laminate Plant and Wilson House.

“The thought leaders in design working together at this symposium to define and refine our advocacy messaging as a cohesive professional body is vital to the success of our advocacy strategy and efforts,” said Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl Durst. “IIDA is looking to the future of design and to the education of the public and political spheres about the impact that design has on business and productivity. At its core, advocacy for design is advocacy for the overall health, safety and well-being of society as a whole.”
